February Chapter Meeting: Strengthening Your Resiliency Muscle within Organizations
Strengthening Your Resiliency Muscle within Organizations
Description: Cultivating and Strengthening Your Resiliency muscle within an organization. In today’s organizations, resilience has become a key human capacity required for peak performance, and an increasingly important characteristic for organizations to cultivate in employees. Resiliency shapes the way employees respond to stress and associated with increased work engagement, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. I'll be presenting the keys for resiliency in the workplace and beyond.
About our speaker:
Farooq Shah, spiritual teacher and author of Moment of Belief: A True Story and Frankie Saves the Day, has spent a lifetime overcoming adversity. At the age of two, he was diagnosed with Systemic Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. He spent his childhood in and out of the hospital as he grappled with torment from an abusive father as well as the physical and emotional setbacks of his chronic illness. He was suffocated by feelings of worthlessness as he struggled to fit into a world that did not feel like his own. Farooq’s only escape was through books; he found solitude there.
A resiliency deep inside of him allowed him to move forward, though, it was not until he sustained a severe neck injury after a near-death experience that he awakened to his purpose in this life. During his recovery he was struck with the realization that life came with the power of choice; he was not only worthy of love, he was loved. As Farooq opened himself to the transformative power of love, he raised his consciousness and revamped his life. He began to live life without limitations. He moved forward with love.
Farooq is quoted with saying, “Brokenness is my blessing.” This theme has been authentically and courageously displayed in both of his narratives. From his experience, he began to live his truth; he reclaimed his place in the world. Today, he encourages others to do the same. He believes that we all have the capacity to survive any obstacle with a positive mindset. Resiliency, he says, “Is a muscle that we can all choose to strengthen.”
