Leadership for Project Managers - with Dr. Kemi Olukayode
Have you ever pondered on what exact processes or styles do I adopt to lead a group/team when I have not been appointed as a manager? The presentation at the upcoming chapter meeting will help you navigate the roles, characteristics, and traits of a leader. You will learn what leadership styles to adopt to effectively carry a group along and help achieve the team’s goals. All these you will learn to manage a group effectively even when you are not a manager but take up to the role when the occasion arises. These skills will help you better implement best practices as project managers.
Learning objectives:
In this session, you will develop traits and styles that will enhance your leadership abilities as project managers and perform the roles of managers even when you are not one. At the end of the training, you will be able to:
- Identify the meaning of leadership
- Identify leadership traits and styles and how they apply to groups in the work environment
- Identify the traits of a good leader and describe basic leadership styles
- Describe group types and identify the phases of groups
- Describe how different styles of leadership apply to the various phases of a group

Dr. Kemi Olukayode, the founder of FirstHand Aid, is a professional project manager and a humanitarian with a passion to help individuals succeed. She started off with financial career in New York city, in the year 2000 with a major finance corporation, Morgan Stanley, in the investment banking section for financial reporting. She has two decades of experience in project management having managed projects for major organizations from scratch to finish. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Centenary College, Hackettstown, New Jersey; a master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Kaplan University; and a doctoral degree in Business Administration with specialization in Project Management from Northcentral University.
In addition, she was awarded an honorary doctoral degree from the Universal Institute of Professional Management in Humanity and Social Management as a result of her involvement in humanitarian work in a Sustainable Development forum to alleviate poverty at the United Nations ECOSOC. Before starting FirstHand Aid, Dr. Olukayode was the president of a nongovernmental organization (NGO) affiliated with the United Nations where she was part of programs that supported humanity. She left the NGO to start and focus on a nonprofit organization where she can better assist local communities with humanitarian aid with resources that can be obtained from around the country including government parastatals. She is a Project Management Professional and a member of National Society of Leadership and Success, a leadership honor society.
